Broadband and Mobile Communications

Every student needs broadband and mobile. There is just no getting around it. Research would be unbelievably onerous without the ability to surf for information or access library materials online. Despite the necessity of mobile communications and high speed internet scholarships, subsidies and grants do not generally take into account these essential expenses so it is pretty important to shop around for the best deal.  Sadly for American students that is not an easy feat. Look for a broadband deal in India, Pakistan or England and you’ll find a whole heap of companies competing for the student broadband buck, but not so in the U.S.

In fact it took me 15 minutes online (and I am a very fast surfer) just to come up with one company looking for student business so kudos to broadbandinfo.com for offering some great rates to American universities and students. These guys aren’t just the only folks successfully advertising special student rates they’re offering some great package deals for every aspect of a student’s telecommunications needs; including broadband, mobile phone and cable TV. They also offer cash rebates and cheap stand-alone broadband plans starting from $20 a month. Although cheap, that combined with a mobile is still a pretty big chunk out of a student budget.

If you are into online gaming for rest and relaxation you really have to fork out a significant percentage of income for enough gigabytes for work and pleasure.  The unlimited downloads required for optimal gaming without frustrating interruptions will cost an average of $50 dollars a month, and often that is on a plan with a minimum commitment of around a year. We can only hope that the bigger broadband players will show some mercy in the near future and start offering unlimited download packages at rates that students can afford. In the meantime it might be best to forego the gaming and stick to research projects.
