Distance Learning (Online Classes)
Good morning,
Just want to chat about distance learning for a moment. Another topic that is near and dear to my heart, especially because, when you think about it, that's what I am: my own kind of distance learner. Think about it! I work from my home office (yes, I'm one of those telecommuters) in the academic writing and research business, which means that I'm constantly learning, whether because I'm working on a project or handling related business issues. Regardless of the specifics of how I spend my work day, my point here is that I work and learn from home, and that's what other distance learners do, although of course they do it more traditionally by taking online classes.
And it's a growing number, that total group of people who take online classes. No wonder. You can't beat the convenience, for the most part you can't beat the price, the instructors are as good online as they are in the brick and mortar classroom, and the pace is fast so that you get done with your degree program as quickly as possible. Really, it's the wave of the future; not to say it hasn't been around for a long time, because distance learning has definitely been around for awhile. Do you remember those correspondence courses you could take by sending in a matchbook cover? I do, although I guess that's giving you more information about my age than I care to share. Seriously, though, distance learning has been here for awhile, but now that the Internet is in everyone's living room, it's really taken off, gotten very sophisticated, and very accessible, and people are taking notice.
This is why we focus on distance learning of all kinds, especially online classes, at PowerPapers. We not only understand why such classes are growing in popularity, we also understand that the folks who are taking those classes need help from time to time. Like I said, the pace is fast, distance learners are juggling families, jobs, and sometimes more than one class, and not everyone is internet-savvy. So, we want to be right there with the growing trend of distance learning because we believe in it, and because we want to be part of a helping community of people who are engaging in the many opportunities, educational and otherwise, which are presented by the Internet.
So, what I'm saying here is that I'm a distance learner in my own way; we have millions of other people out there who are more traditional distance learners, taking online classes; and because of these things, I wanted to make sure that PowerPapers was positioned to be a part of it all.
