Whether you choose to go with an iPad, Apple reader, Kindle or any of the other ereaders on the market, the bottom line is that you should definitely put a request for one in with your letter to Santa. Ereader book providers are not proprietary in their services so books can be purchased for these devices from a range of book providers. Whether you are studying sculpture or science the ereader is a must have. The most basic device can store thousands of books which cost a small fraction of the price of the hard copy version. Add that to the fact they are more versatile, accessible, they are uploadable, you can take notes, highlight and bookmark pages and there you have it - the ultimate student aid.

The only downside of an ereader at the moment, but it won’t remain so for long, is book availability. That won’t be a problem soon because the speed at which books are being uploaded is phenomenally fast in a way that only the internet can be. Right now the big book providers like Apple and Kindle only offer fiction and non-fiction reading for pleasure, but there are third party companies who are already offering tens of thousands of standard digital texts online. There are also apps available to make the upload to different hardware componentry more seamless. These preclude any conflicts between the application and the ereader type.  My guess is its only months at most before every book you need is available for upload.

Ereaders have evolved over the past year so that many offer clear matt touch screens without glare, highlighting options, built-in dictionaries, massive battery power and adjustable font sizes. Gone are the days of lugging around a backpack full of heavy and expensive textbooks. Digital textbooks are not super cheap but a third of the price of the hard copy makes a big difference for books that cost in the hundreds. So whether you are studying German or germs, the ereader is a must have for every student.
