Essay topics for college papers.
Usually, your professors will supply essay topics for college classes, but you will still have to determine what exactly you are going to discuss and how you are going to approach it.
When you have been given one or more essay topics, here are some things to think about in order to develop a more specific essay topic:
- What section or unit did you most enjoy or find most interesting?
- What was your favorite reading for the class and why?
- What section of the college class did you hate?
- What was the part that you struggled most to understand?
Students are often afraid to say negative things in college papers. Sometimes, when they do go negative, they stick to opinion and their personal frustrations. Researching things you hated can help you understand them better. Sometimes that means you will start to enjoy aspects of it that you previously did not. Other times, it will confirm your original analysis.
If you are worried the grader may grade you more harshly, send them a note saying that you wanted to explore aspects that you did not like and you hope that is OK. Usually a grader will tell you to go ahead, but to remember logic and do your research.
Remember that is also true when you like something. Too many student heap vague praise, so-and-so is the greatest writer in the English language! This is the Best X that ever existed! GREATEST ASTRONOMER OF ALL TIME!!!! Remember, when choosing a topic for a college paper, you need to support praise and positive reviews as thoroughly as negative ones.
Vague praise, like vague insults, will lead to poor grades and rewrites. Choose an essay topic for your paper that you provide meaningful support for, rather than just hyperbole.
