Google Netbooks

It was bound to happen. Google has stepped off of the screen and into your mobile hardware offering Google Chromium based netbooks to the market. Google has gone head to head with Windows in what should prove to be a battle of epic proportions and that is of course, good news for the consumer. This is already reflected in the very reasonable sale price of $300-$400 for a netbook with the Google Chrome operating system (OS) on board.

So what does that mean in lay speak for Jo Student considering a netbook purchase? In a nutshell, aside from the benefit of a little competition in the market for Windows, Google Chrome offers a few features that most of us will find attractive. We all want more speed and Google claims their operating system delivers the goods with start-up times that are significantly faster than Windows Vista or 7, - within seconds if you can imagine!

Even better than a sexier speed the Google OS is offering true portability at last. With the system having free access to all things Google and with Google offering all things world wide web wise, including gmail, documents, etc…, netbooks are finally truly portable devices not dependant on constant syncs with another computer. That’s good news for students who often only have a laptop/netbook.

Essentially all of Google’s online offerings are compatible with the netbook and as result it is really the web that is the OS, and not the netbook machine. This is an interesting turn of events indeed. Hopefully what that means is that the Google OS may also remove the netbook hassle of downloading programs onto a netbooks usually non-existent hard drive or uploading from a netbooks usually non-existent disc drive.

It is very likely that a whole raft of netbook hassles will be eliminated with the Google OS and its obvious relationship to the Google mother ship. If Google is consistent and remains a primarily free service provider things could get really exciting for netbook users.Watch this space!
