Long time no see!
Hey world!
Jon and I took a couple of days off to enjoy the last few days of quiet in this mid-August calm spell. Yet even from our blankets on the beach, we still couldn't keep away from the topic of academic writing and research.
What we focused on, in our conversations, was the research bit. I admit, we mostly talked about academic research because we were both spending so much time reading our summer trash books that it naturally led us to discuss not just what we were reading, but reading in general, which led to research. Both Jon and I love to conduct research for papers. It's one huge reason why we ended up as professional academic writers, and frankly, why we suspect so many writers in our field do as well. It's terrific fun if you're the kind of person who likes to learn about new things.
Plus, with the always-improving Internet, there are so many scholarly (and not-so-scholarly, of course) books, articles, interviews, reports, and so forth out there, to be found by patient, skilled researchers, that we never have to go far to get everything we need. That's another wonderful allure of this business: the ability to travel the world without leaving one's seat. Makes us sound like couch potatoes, and I guess we are, we didn't get up much from our blankets this past weekend. But in fact, while our bodies might not be in shape for a marathon, our minds are running circles around the rest of the world, simply because we have learned so much just from having to research thousands of different topics and areas over the course of the past couple of decades.
Academic research is like a treasure hunt. Of course, you have to treasure what you're looking for, which is knowledge, and of course it's not really a treasure unless you know how to use it properly. But yeah, that's the kind of treasure hunt that Jon and I were musing about in the sun: not the gold-coin sunken chest variety, but the truly great kind of wealth that comes from information, knowledge, and wisdom. And that's why we love writing model papers for our clients.
