Student Groups on Facebook
Are Facebook student group’s useful, fun or a waste of time? A search of Facebook groups for students will call up over 500 search result pages, which is a lot of student groups so we have to assume a significant number of people do find them useful. On first sight it was difficult to see why until the listing of sub-groups was viewed. Here the options are impressive and cover every possible student category.
Clicking on the Academic groups subtype in fact brought forth 116 options for study groups, intensive study and groups willing to help members with every type of course study. That was more impressive still so I kept looking. From there I searched social groups to see what was available. Here is a vast network of students who share similar extracurricular interests, subjects or sporting or cultural interest. Although its membership was relatively small my favorite of the social groups had to be, When you know it's time for... REHAB!
The one group/guy I found off-putting was the dude who had a group (179 members) to vote for him for some student body position. His slogan was, “Your Mother Would Approve.” Looking at his picture I felt that was very unlikely. My favorite activist group, and the favorite student group of a whopping 19000+ others, was the Official Petition For No School On Chinese New Year. These two samples surely go to show that there is truly a group that will please everyone.
So if you are feeling a little isolated, lost for people who think as you do, in need of academic advice or guidance, hop online and check it out. It can’t hurt and you just might find what you need. After browsing for a while my impression of Facebook groups is good. I think I’ll join the REHAB group!
