Top 10 American Universities

The bad news is they are all ridiculously hard to get into but the good news is that if you make it into top ranking Williams College your fees might be lower than if you’d made it into one of the other nine top schools. Not a lot lower, but some less is better than none. According to Forbes the top ranking universities in the United States based on 2010 data are as follows:

  • Williams College
  • Princeton University
  • Amherst College
  • United States Military Academy
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • Stanford University
  • Swarthmore College
  • Harvard University
  • Claremont McKenna College
  • Yale University

Of these the public universities had some interesting rank results. Two military schools made it into the top ranking of all public universities in the United States. Talk about fee’s if you are lucky enough to make it into these top ranking schools, United States Military Academy, United States Naval Academy or United States Coast Guard Academy, the fees aren’t even an issue. That said coast guard academy only ranked 168, but still.

Also surprisingly a rather little known non-ivy league took out first place overall. According to Forbes, “The best college in America isn't in Cambridge or Princeton, West Point or Annapolis. It's nestled in the Berkshire Mountains. Williams College, a 217-year-old private liberal arts school, tops our third annual ranking of America's Best Colleges. Our list of more than 600 undergraduate institutions is based on the quality of the education they provide, the experiences of the students and how much they achieve.” So there!
