Normal;Default Paragraph Font;...)()()()()()QUESTIONS ON DATING/RELATIONSHIP EXPERIENCES
The following questions were directed to a male classmate during a one-on-one interview outside of class.
Question 1: When was the first time you went out on a date and what happened?
I was sixteen years old the first time I ever went out. The girl was also sixteen and she was one of my classmates in my history class. She seemed like a nice person and I like the way she looked and dressed, so one day I got up the nerve to ask her out. She said yes and I was shocked. So I borrowed my dad's car and we went to the movies. Later on, we stopped at a friend's house and played some video games, then I took her home. I guess I had a good time, and I guess she did too.
Question 2: Because of that first date, did your attitude about dating change?
Well, I quickly understood what girls wanted on a date, that they wanted to be treated like a lady and didn't like it when guys put their hands all over them. Before going on this date, I didn't really know much about dating, so I kind of took it one step at a time. But I guess my attitude did change because I knew what I wanted out of a date and not necessarily just sex. I also kind of changed my attitude about having enough courage to ask a pretty girl out, and not to be afraid to ask.
Question 3: Was there any sexual contact during that first date?
Absolutely not. I was only sixteen and was still a virgin. Even if she had wanted to have sex, I don't think I would've been able to do it because of being so inexperienced and afraid of messing up my first time. I'm pretty sure she was a virgin too, so I'd have to admit that the idea of having sex with her never really entered my mind. My parents were pretty strict about that kind of thing and I'm sure they would've been real upset with me if they had found out about trying to "get laid" as they say.
Question 4: Do you think it's proper to have sex on a first date?
Well, I guess it depends on the girl. A guy will have sex with his date at the drop of a hat, but it's the girl who really has to make the decision to have sex or not. I don't really see anything morally wrong with it, but there's always the chance of the girl getting pregnant, of course. For some people, having sex on the first date is normal, but for others, it's totally out of the question. It's not like the old days when my parents grew up, ya know. Having sex on the first date was almost taboo, I guess.
Question 5: When was the first time you had a steady girlfriend and how long did it last?
I had my first steady girlfriend when I was eighteen. I met her at a birthday party for my best friend and we hit it off almost immediately. We went out a few times and quickly came to like each other a whole lot. Before I knew it, I was calling her three times a day and spending lots of time at her house. Her parents seemed to like me, too, so we stayed together for about three years, maybe a little bit longer. It was a good experience and I still see her sometimes.
Question 6: What kinds of relationships do you have with women now?
Well, over the last several years, I've gone out on dates with about a dozen girls. Most of them are pretty boring, to be honest with you. But a few of them "put out" as the old saying goes. At this point in my life, I don't really see having any kind of a serious, long-term relationship with a woman happening. Guess I still want to get wild and have a good time. To be totally honest, the best relationship I have right now is with my big sister. She's five years older than me and is always there when I need help. She's given me some great advice on women.
Question 7: Were you ever rejected by a woman you really cared about?
Oh, yeah, more than once, I'm afraid. Not too long ago, I met this girl at a party and I was immediately struck at how beautiful she was. In fact, you could say that it was the old-fashioned love at first sight, I guess. I did ask her out, but she kind of just looked at me like I was crazy or something. One of her friends gave me her phone number and I tried calling her a few times but with no luck. I really wish I could've struck up some kind of a relationship with her. So, that's the first time I was ever rejected, and I'm sure it won't be the only time in my life.
Question 8: What is your opinion on today's relationships between men and women?
Well, things don't look too good right now from where I stand. Men never change. All they want is to "get laid" as I said before. But women have really changed over the last ten years or so. They have their own cars, homes, bank accounts, and the rest. Men seem to be redundant. A smart woman doesn't need a man, I guess. But every once in awhile, I guess some men get lucky and find that special person, a soul mate as they call it. Hasn't happened to me yet, and I expect it never will.
Question 9: Do you have any suggestions for improving today's relationships between men and women?
Yeah. One suggestion. That men stop acting like macho jerks and try to be more sensitive. Women a real tired of going out with jerks. Men have to wise up real fast or else.
Question 10: What kind of advice would you give to a young man today just
starting to date on a regular basis?
Well, I would tell him to take it easy and don't push things too quick. Maybe I would tell him to be more of a gentleman instead of a macho jerk. Maybe even to take a bath more often.
