Brain Food
Or rather, food that makes you brainy. Actually nothing can make you brainier than you are – well that is debatable too! What we are trying to get at here is that food, some food, the right food, can switch your brain on and maximize brain capacity. Likewise a number of youthful favorites for consumption will do the opposite; booze, cigies and junk food are all great for putting brain cells to bed. Fine for holidays and weekends but for many students in the midst of exams and term papers, or with essays and theses due, we have some tips for foods that will help you to stay alert and maximize the flow of information retrieval and creative thinking. So listen up!
Fish, although disgusting to many, is fully packed with minerals and Omegas that will make your brain stand up and pay attention. So eat it! If you just can’t bring yourself to do that, take supplements. This is the number one food or supplement to help you through exams. You will be happy to hear that the brain really likes glucose but not so happy to hear perhaps, that it likes glucose that breaks down slowly – like the glucose in bananas, not the glucose in McDs. If you ate bananas and fish all day you’d be thoroughly pumped for learning. The other thing to remember about the brain (which consumes 20% of the body’s protein intake) is that it likes to eat smaller amounts more often – back to the bananas! Foods that provide healthy fats, are slow burning and also contain protein, including seeds and nuts.
In addition to a great food diet, a healthy amount of exercise is really important to ramping up the body and the brain. Even if you only do it around critical exam and term paper times, give it a shot and be amazed at the difference. Start the day with 20 minutes of exercise and eat healthy brain food and you may even decide to stick to it because if feels so great!
