The scope of engineering is vast and so are the options for the digitally inclined in terms of career. Choosing a direction upon entry to an undergraduate degree or deciding which postgraduate course to take is never easy. That is especially true for cyber geeks who are faced with a huge plethora of options. This is an overview of just a few of the choices available.

Today it is possible to find online money brokers who require personal details within an easy setup structure but no more, not even credit card details. You deal only in funds that are available in your account. These sites allow the user to request or send money and pay for items purchased online but only if the funds are available in the account or a credit card is registered.

Some schools call them conjoint degrees and others call them dual or double degrees. The interesting question is, to what degree do these simultaneous degrees help a student to excel in their chosen field?

You don’t have to go far to find relaxation and respite from the stresses of the school year. You don’t even have to be able to spend more than a few days here and there. There is so much to do over the summer holidays throughout the US, so that even those who have to work or study through the break should be able to make some happy memories.

The Singularity

Word has it, if you believe in the coming of the Singularity, that within the next 50 years or so, in the words of Ray Kurzweil, “humans will transcend biology.” What that means is that by the time today’s students are old (ish) it is very likely that either we will have some computer components mixed in with our natural biology or, it will mean that our consciousnesses will be scan-able into a cyborg of sorts.

Clinical Research

Clinical research may be part of graduate work, post graduate study or a doctoral thesis or dissertation. Ultimately it may lead to a career in clinical research. There are a few attributes or characteristics that make for an excellent clinical researcher. People skills are imperative as almost all clinical research involves volunteer or paid human subjects. Subjects who will undoubtedly have some degree of anxiety about being part of a trial or research project.

Fitting in Fitness

As a student there are a lot of reasons to bother. Exercise releases endorphins and endorphin release sets you up to be receptive, retentive and responsive. It also makes you happy. So bother because you will go through the day feeling better about the world and significantly better able to learn and retain new information.

Pleasing all the Profs all the time

Missing tutorials and lectures and then attempting to write a term paper or other required document based upon the written specifications only, can be a minefield. While some professors are great and create paper outlines which are comprehensive and really do include everything they want to see, others are not quite so astute.

Engineering, ICT and design students especially must be savvy to the deals out there because in these fields in particular, on-going software upgrades are essential to maintaining current skills. Most students require as a minimum, word processing, some presentation software and maybe a maths friendly product like Excel, and these are usually sold at hugely discounted student rates with proof of current student status.

Career Management

Some careers, for instance IT, will follow a fairly direct path, others like business, require a broad set of skills covering humanities to corporate etiquette. Finding ways to hone these skill sets while still in college will place you in a more competitive position at graduation. There are some useful skill sets which will cross a broad range of career choices.
